BPBD Provides Extreme Weather Information and Tips

Along with Jakarta's weather conditions, which have entered the rainy season, the Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) urged the public to anticipate hydrometeorological disasters such as floods, fallen trees, strong winds, and landslides.

We instruct the related agencies to monitor the condition of the trees that are old and prone to falling

Extreme weather conditions are expected to last until the end of 2022, and peak from January to February 2023.

in the past week, Jakarta BPBD Head, Isnawa Adji expressed, there had been several cases of fallen trees. Based on the Disaster Center for Disaster Data and Information (Pusdatin), there are 24 cases of fallen trees in South Jakarta (23 cases) and North Jakarta (1 case) from November 3 to 9, 2022.

"There was also a fallen tree in the City Hall Courtyard due to rain accompanied by strong winds on Thursday (11/10) late afternoon," he expressed, in a written statement, Friday (11/11).

In response to this matter, his agency continues to intensify coordination in order to anticipate flooding and fallen tree with the Parks and City Forest Agency, Fire and Rescue Agency (Gulkarmat), Water Resources Agency (SDA), PLN, PAM Jaya, and other related units.

"We instruct the related agencies to monitor the condition of the trees that are old and prone to falling, and to check the condition of the billboards to minimize the occurrence of falling or collapsing in the future," he added.

The agency provides three tips for the community in dealing with extreme weather in Jakarta. First, prepare self-protection for people who often do outdoor activities such as carrying umbrellas, jackets, hats, or raincoats.

Second, pedestrians and vehicle users to stay away from the area around water channels or open box culverts to avoid accidents. Third, the public should routinely monitor weather information via Jakarta BPBD through the website bpbd.jakarta.go.id and social media such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and Telegram.

Fourth, take advantage of the Jakarta Provincial Government's emergency complaint channel by calling 112 and via the JAKI application to report flooding/inundation events that occur in the vicinity.

"We also urge residents not to take shelter or park their vehicles under trees when it rains," he said.
